About MeMy name is Syd and I am a licensed social worker in New York state.
I am a sixth generation New Yorker, born and raised on Long Island. I received my B.A. in Studio Art from CUNY Hunter College in Manhattan, during which time I started organizing and community building. After college I continued living and organizing in NYC and spending many summers working at a camp that fostered critical thinking in youth. I received my MSW from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College in 2016 for community organizing.
After graduate school I returned to Long Island and worked as an organizer for the ACLU of New York advocating for civil rights at the state and local level. What I found most fulfilling about that work, and what I was best suited for, was supporting and holding space for individuals and small groups. Since then I transitioned from the “macro” side of the social work field to the “micro”, supporting mental health through clinical and direct service work. I honed these skills providing intensive home-based mental health support to youth in crisis and their families for over five years. I have developed many creative tools to engage young people and families that have been used by other clinicians, as well as educational materials for providers on how to support LGBTQ youth and their caregivers. In 2026 I transitioned to providing online individual therapy across the state.
In addition to social workin’, I also: create art, thrift, behold my many houseplants, try my best to identify birds in the wild, make playlists, watch Star Trek, and love the ones I’m with.
As a therapist and a community member I am grateful for the opportunity to support you on your journey of healing and reclaiming your most authentic self.
Let’s take the next step together
Send an email to me with your name and availability for a free 15-minute consultation. We won’t know if we’re a good therapeutic fit until we have our first video call where we can see if the space I create with you feels safe and right for you to be curious, honest, and vulnerable. If we find we are not the right therapeutic fit there is no pressure to continue and I can refer you to other therapists if you’d like. If we find we are a good fit, then I very much look forward to working with you :)
